What do you do when you get out of ideas - How do you cure your block?

Let’s start with an addled view of what we refer to  as idea. Rudolf Steiner sees ideas as “objects of experience“, which the mind apprehends, much as the eye apprehends light. Charles Sanders Peirce denoted that to understand an idea clearly, we should ask ourselves what difference its application would make to our evaluation of a proposed solution to the problem at hand. The capacity to create and understand the meaning of ideas is an essential and defining feature of human being.

In the society today, study has shown that most persons are face not with the problem of running out of ideas but with the problem of how to choose from the many ideas they have. Let’s take a brief look at some articles on how to choose the best idea.

Samuel Bacharach wrote in his article ‘’ 7 criteria to select the best idea ’’ that you have to give a justification beyond your gut feeling when facing any challenge. He also wrote that every time we make a decision, we are at risk.

Josh Spector wrote an article on how to decide which ideas to pursue. He posited that we must avoid the trap of pursuing an idea solely because we recognize the opportunity in it. Choose ideas base on the excitement you have for the work, not on the end result. The time and effort of an idea is the spent on the work.

Whenever you feel you have a blank page and you are ready to give up, just remember that the brain is an endless source of ideas. Here are some criteria of what you should do when you run out of ideas.

Going back to your original inspiration is another way of curing your block because it jugs your memory and bring you back on track. There is a reason this things inspired you in the first place, that is why it will be helpful in inspiring you again.

Talking to someone with more experience

Someone with more experience is better at what he/she does and have found success with these strategies. Be willing to listen and you will be stockpiling ideas while you learn new things.

Do more research

Research offers you the information you need to refresh your ideas. Pick up your notepad, browse through the internet, consults books, read magazines, you may just get ideas from them.

In conclusion, James Sams denoted that getting out and doing things, with people, will refresh your ideas. Staying in the same surrounding, with the same people, will not simulate your imagination.
