UNEMPLOYMENT AND THE NIGERIAN SOCIETY

In recent times  ,unemployment has become a major epidemic that is militating against the growth and  developments of most African state.
In a world where developed nations like China, U.S, Germany e.t.c, can boast of full employment, unemployment in   African society is sky rocketing .
At times major economic problem, become difficult to provide policy situation to, because of the nature of African state. For example according to the Philips curve , unemployment and inflation cannot go hand in hand., that one must be traded off ,for the other. But today unemployment and inflation is moving simultaneously in the Nigerian state.
In way  if pushing my point further , it is very imperatives to define the concept UNEMPLOYMENT.
Unemployment can be define as the process by which individuals who are able and willing to work or individual who are actively seeking for work, are not given opportunity to work.
It must also be noted that there is nothing like a full employment in an ideal state or in a real life situation , a 5person unemployment level can be said to a full employment level.
There are basically many types of unemployment, we have:-
Seasonal unemployment:-this arises from activities ,which have well defined season, like transportation, construction e.t.c.
Frictional unemployment:- this arises from unfilled vacancies in the same place or occupation.
Structural unemployment:- this arises from mis- matched between  job available and skills of applicant.
Cyclical unemployment -: this arises from demand deficiency.
Job search unemployment:- this arises from temporarily stopping work, to search for another better one.
It should also be noted , that there is voluntary and involuntary unemployment:- involuntary unemployment this occur, when persons who are actively seeking job,are not able to secure one.
While the voluntary unemployment result from free choice, for example the son of dangote, bill gate e.t.c, will not want to work not for any reason. Even some individuals in developed nations, will deliberately not want to work, because they are contented with the prevailing wage rate offered to them,by the government.
We also have what is called underemployment, this is a situation where persons are observed to be working ,but are either working less than the normal minimum wage.,for example a graduate or a master degree holder earning #10'000 naira as salary ( peanut).
It will also be very necessary to differentiate between joblessness and unemployment. A jobless person may not necessarily be an unemployed, if he is not actively seeking job.

CAUSES OF UNEMPLOYMENT.
Unemployment has pose a whole lot of problem to the world , but the  in the case of Nigeria it is worst.the following are some  of the causes of unemployment-:
Bad leadership-: African leaders sure little or no concerns to the well being of their citizens, African leaders are just self centered, and do not care ,if there is a job, for the average Nigerian graduate.
High appetite for white collar job:- most Nigerian graduate, do not want to be self employed, they don't if want to start from the scratch , they just want to make it big at once. Many Nigeria graduate do not have any skill they can run to, when the government fail.
Wrong school curriculum.-: the Nigeria $chool system place more emphasis on theoretical work, rather than practical work...it is only in Nigerian that an engineering graduate with a 1st class, can not effectively supervised a construction work.
Lack of entrepreneurs and inability to take business risk:-most Nigeria graduate do not want to take any risk in setting up a business any this has resulted in high rate of unemployment.

SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS of UNEMPLOYMENT

Government policy:- Government policies should aim at providing work for it citizens, like they always say, the ldle mind is the devils workshops, today we cases of herds men attack, boko haram  e.t.c, if these youth were in the labour market they will not have become tools for evil.
Change of school curriculum:- The Nigeria society should stop placing too much emphasis on paper work , but rather on practical work., when this is done graduate can gain fully employed themselves.
Reduce the appetite for white collar job:- Nigeria graduate should at least learn a skill, they should not always wait for the government, when every body have something doing, the government will have to provide job for fewer people, and this will help reduce unemployment in our society.
Above all, Nigeria youth should be mindful of the course they read in school. I wonder  where a person that read Religion, history, sociology, French e.t.c will work.
